News, events & happenings at the Essex Senior Center
" Gateway to Friends, Fun & Fulfillment "

While the best parts of Essex Senior Center can only be found by visiting us, you can find a taste of what makes our center so special and get an inside peek of our programs and philosophy.  You will also find a variety of resources for seniors, caregivers, and anyone interested in senior activism.

The Essex Senior Center has been nationally accredited by the National Council on Aging and is a nonprofit organization.  The center is located on Dorsey Avenue which runs parallel to Eastern Boulevard.  Membership is offered to Baltimore County residents 60 years of age and older and their spouses.  There is no fee to join the center, however, donations to the Center Enhancement Fund are always welcomed.  These donations stay within the Center and are used to purchase items to enhance the center and offer special programs.  This past year, computers were purchased to expand the computer lab and we replaced the sound system in our Multi-Purpose Room. Donatons collected this year will be used to get our fitness room started by purchasing equipment such as treadmills and bikes.

The Baltimore County government is the center's main source of funding.  The Center has a an executive board comprised of members who meet monthly.  Board members are elected each year by the center membership, also known as the Council.  Center Staff work closely with the executive board in planning programs, fundraising events, and advancing the goals of the center.  Staff also depends upon volunteers to operate the center.  We are always in need of more hands to help, and we welcome new volunteers who bring with them a wealth of creativity and experience.

Displayed in the lobby of the Center is a variety of information on services available to seniors.  Whether a senior citizen or a caregiver, this information, combined with the expertise of staff, is helpful in accessing senior resources and informational materials.
